How to create a Google Maps API key and set it

A unique Google Maps API key is necessary for Google Maps. You cannot display Google Maps on your website without this key. The Google Maps API browser key and the Google Maps API GeoCoding key were previously two different keys. There is only one Google Maps API key needed as of Yoast Local SEO 11.9 now.

You must generate this API key before you can set it in your Local SEO installation. You will learn how to achieve that through this tutorial.

Four separate APIs are used by the Local SEO plugin. You can activate these APIs based on your needs. Below, we've listed them and explained which features they make use of.

This API key instructs Google to convert your coordinates' latitude and longitude into the appropriate timezone. If you wish to utilize our Show Open/Close Message Widget, you must have this API key. If not, it is not required. This manual provides more information on how to activate API keys.

  • Google Maps API (server key)

Address data is converted into longitude and latitude coordinates using this API key.
